The Square Root of Minus One Mathematically, the complex numbers are supremely elegant. Algebra works perfectly the way we want it to - any equation has a complex number solution, a situation that is not true for the real numbers : x^2 + 4 = 0 has no real number solution, but it does have a complex ...

This card sort activity has students categorize 24 statements about the Real Number System as "Always True", "Sometimes True", and "Never True". The statements relate to the different types of numbers in the Real Number System: Real, Irrational, Rational, Integer, Whole, and Natural.

This is a foldable used to help students understand the real number system. The outside flaps cover the irrational and rational numbers. Inside the foldable on the rational numbers side, there are 3 more flaps containing the integers, whole numbers and natural numbers.

OK TEACH..LET'S HEAR YOU SING!!! How do you use a Number Cloud to Identify the Sets of Number(s) to which any Real Number belongs? This graphic organizer allows students to place the number in the first cloud or block to which it belongs then identify all sets of Real numbers to which it belongs.......

This Real Number System activity is a set of 40 numbers that can be sorted into Rational vs. Irrational or Rational, Irrational, Integers, Whole, and Natural/Counting Numbers. Templates are included for both card sort activities.Digital Version for 1:1 Classrooms Available HereReal Number

In this activity, students will classify numbers according to their appropriate subset to determine which subset is making the true claim! Each subset claims their statement to be true (statements are at the top of the paper) and directions for determining which one(s) is true are included.

This is a one-sided Venn diagram-type of notes page over the real number system. The student trims out extra shapes for the Natural numbers, Whole numbers and Integers and glues or staples the shapes onto the notes page before adding examples and definitions.

This activity will strengthen students' skills at comparing and ordering Rational & Irrational numbers. There are 3 number sets that include 5 different numbers and 2 number sets that include 7 different numbers for a total of 29 cards to be compared and ordered.

This coloring activity allows students to practice their algebra skills while having fun! Students will classify numbers according to the real number system and then color them with the indicated color to reveal a beautiful, colorful mandala! As an added bonus, the final product makes fabulous class...

This compare and order real numbers scavenger hunt allow students to have a movement-based way of reviewing concepts to math problems. How are your scavenger hunts different from others? My scavenger hunts are completely different than anything on TPT, and anywhere else.

Just as many of us have nicknames, numbers are often classified by several names. This graphic organizer and activity will help clarify the different number systems and how they relate. Get students involved in the sorting process with a classifying activity that can be used with individual students...
